Hydrogen Refuelling Station: Enabling the Transition in Transport
Hydrogen is set to play a key role in the decarbonisation of the transport sector. The transition of bus fleets to fuel cell operation is already underway, and hydrogen-powered trucks, rail vehicles, and inland vessels will follow. During the transition phase, hydrogen combustion engines will also be used.
By 2030, truck manufacturers, suppliers, energy providers, and logistics companies aim to put around 100,000 hydrogen trucks on European roads and build 1,500 hydrogen refuelling stations. Almost all established manufacturers are currently working to bring hydrogen drive systems for trucks into series production.
With its significant volume of truck-based freight traffic, the presence of local and regional logistics companies, and its strategic transport connections (central location and direct access to the motorway network), the Stadthafen Gelsenkirchen offers an ideal location for a public hydrogen refuelling station.
